Project Status

Week of 04-03-19
Project is: Behind Schedule but catching up
Issues / Extra progress from last week:

  • Mechanical Fabrication completed

    • Motor mounts

    • Battery enclosure

  • While testing motor driver circuit, let all the smoke out of the Particle Argon

    • This sets us further back because we need to modify code for a different microcontroller

  • Ordered Buck converter

  • Ordered gate driver IC

Accomplished this week:
Motor Mounts
  • The Solidworks part file was uploaded to Autodesk Fusion 360

  • Each operation was run individually do to the memory limits of the 3D CNC

  • Total of three operations were configured

  • The files were uploaded to the 3D CNC using a USB flash drive

  • After uploading the G-code to the 3D CNC each program was tested without running the cutter

  • The display shows the cutter center line

  • The billet was secured using two lag bolts in the area of the motor cutout diameter, the final operation

  • Plywood was used to isolate the billet from the deck of the table to ensure clearance

  • Operation four involved drilling and tapping the band clamp bolt holes

  • Barry recommended altering the design to make the bottom surface parallel to the bolt head surface.  This made the setup of the part simple, squaring it up in the vise and clamping down.

  • The parts installed nicely with no issues.

Motor Faceplate
  • Two operations completed

  • lag bolts were then removed after fixturing the part securely with wedge blocks

20190329_143355.jpg
  • The final operations included using the band saw to slit the part for clamping the motor.

  • Also the M6-1.0 threaded holes needed to be tapped.

  • The 100 degree countersink bit arrived and the face plate was fixtured in the Mill

  • The depth of the cut was measured on the diameter of the C-sink and compared to the CAD model

Battery
  • The leads for the BMS were cut to length and soldered

  • Flexible cutting boards were purchased to use as isolation between the battery array and the aluminum enclosure

  • During the initial design small channels were modeled in the dovetails for the BMS wires

  • These channels allowed the wires to be routed out of harms way and also double as a means to secure the wire.

  • It also presents a very clean and efficient look

Controller
  • Progress was made in the programming of the Freescale KL25Z microcontroller

  • A DC to DC converter was ordered to convert the 48V power to 5V

  • A gate driver was ordered to control the 3 phase motor

Task List
  • To help pull our project back on track we have created a task list

  • Each component of the eDirtbike has been listed and the open items needed to complete the component are below that

  • Each task has been assigned with a need date to ensure its completion

Goals for next week:
  • Install wiring on the bike

    • BMS

    • Charging

    • Throttle POT

    • Battery

    • Controller

  •
