Project Status

Week of 02-27-19
Project is: ON TRACK

The project is still on track, although we will need to order the PCB soon to be able to stay on track.

Issues / Extra progress from last week:

  • Acquired material for rear sprocket

  • Started machining spacers

Accomplished this week:
  • Started detail design of the motor mount assembly

  • Started fabrication of spacers

  • Battery frame fit check

    • The edges of the battery ID pockets needed to be deburred/chamfered.  The diameter size 18.5mm was a perfect fit

    • The sides of each frame needed to be sanded flat, dove tails could use one more small adjustment for an easier fit.

  • Battery spot welding test

    • Sunkko 788H spot welder

      • Settings used: Current 80, Pulse 2, Power 6

      • The foot pedal made using the spot welder easier and also added more current to the weld.  Two pumps on the pedal made for a secure spot weld.

      • I would recommend wearing safety glasses, if both prongs are not touching the nickel strip with sufficient pressure there will be a spark.

      • I cut the nickel strip with sheet metal cutters and it left a serrated edge.  For future cutting I will use some industrial scissors

  • Ebay battery pack disassembly

    • This was a mountain bike headlamp that I purchased three years ago.  I got two good seasons out of it and this year it only stays charged for 10 minutes.

    • During the disassembly of the battery pack I found that there were only two batteries connected in the system.  The other two batteries, tubes filled with sand, were hot glued to the side to give the appearance of a 2S2P battery pack.
